Letters discuss foreign travel and experiences in India, Java, Russia, Latin America; the Philippines, Korea, Samoa, and China. Subjects include Anglo-German rivalry in Samoa, the Boxer Rebellion, the Foreign Service, and St. John's College in Shanghai. Correspondents include George Lincoln Burr, Jacob G. Schurman, Moses Coit Tyler, Andrew Dickson White, Margaret Dyer, Durand Charles Alexander, Sao-ke Alfred Sze, Edward Davis, Edward Vernon Morgan, Lewis Stanton Palen, Jacob Gould Schurman, and Willard Straight. Collection also includes a photostat of a manuscript by Jerome Landfield describing his association with Stephens at Cornell University in the late nineteenth century; letter and manuscript about Cornell's participation in the National Commemoration of King Alfred the Great; a photograph of Stephans; his "Syllabus of Lectures on the History of the British Empire;" and memorial items including a sketch and a printed memorandum regarding the establishment of a memorial.
